Google Tag Manager Setup

The SharpSpring Ads Tracking Tag works great with Google Tag Manager. Below are step-by-step instructions for setting it up.

Create a New Tag

  1. At the Google Tag Manager Overview screen click 'Add a new tag'

  1. Then click 'Choose a tag type to begin set up'

  1. Select the 'Custom HTML Tag' type

Tag Configuration

Paste the SharpSpring Ads tag into the Custom HTML field and click Save. Please don't make any modifications to this tag.

Add a Trigger

Click the 'Choose a trigger to make this tag fire' text area

Select the respective GTM Trigger for your conversion event. We strongly recommend loading our tag on all ages of your site. Click Save on the upper right corner.

Name the Tag

You can rename the tag 'SharpSpring Ads Tag' and click the save button

Publish the Container

Click the 'Submit' button on the upper right to publish the container

Version Configuration

Prior to clicking the Publish button you will have the option to enter a Version name and Version description. Click Publish when you are ready.

Adding a Conversion Event Trigger

A Trigger is a rule that can be assigned for different points during the customer experience. Choose an existing Trigger or create a new one. We strongly recommend loading our tag on all pages of your site.

Choose the appropriate trigger type and setup rules for your specific needs

After you complete the Trigger setup, you will have the option to name your Trigger. Enter a name for your Trigger and click Save.

Click Save in the upper right when you're done, then click Publish in the upper right to push the changes live to your site.

That's it! Your tag will now fire on all pages of your website. Our system will take 4-5 hours to recognize the tag on your site and start tracking your visitors. You'll receive an email when that happens.

Advanced Configurations

If you wish to pass us an Order ID, Revenue amount, or Product ID, configure those settings when choosing your tag type. This is optional. For more information on setting up Google Tag Manager Macros, visit the Google Tag Manager's macro reference guide.
